Barbara Ann Lowery, a bright and vibrant soul, was born on May 10, 1936, and passed away on June 22, 2025. Her spirited personality made her a beloved presence in the lives of many, and she is mourned deeply.
A dedicated healthcare professional, Barbara served as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Center City Hospital in Philadelphia and later at Henrico Health & Rehab. With a heart full of love and compassion, she devoted her career to helping others, making an indelible impact on the lives she touched throughout her journey.
Barbara received her education at Gratz High School in Philadelphia, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with service to others. She was known not only for her professional dedication but also for her lively spirit. Barbara was spunky and full of life, traits that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She found joy in watching game shows and was a cherished member of the choir at her church, where her love for singing flourished.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Akilah D. Reel (Akil-Lester W. Jr.), her two grandchildren, Baye A. Reel (Erika) and Salim H. Reel, two great-grandchildren, Matthew Malik Gray and Kamaal Reel as well as her step-great grandchildren Eric King, Jonathan King, Kiera, and Kevin "KJ" Davis, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Preceding her in death was her devoted husband, Ardine W. Lowery, whom she cherished deeply. The bond they shared remains a testament to the love she expressed throughout her life.
Barbara's life will be honored with a Funeral Service on July 11, 2025, at Antioch Baptist in Richmond, Virginia. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a gathering of friends and family as they celebrate the vibrant legacy she leaves behind.
In her memory, let us remember a woman who was full of love and who brought joy to many through her caring heart and uplifting spirit.
