Carolyn Short

Carolyn Short passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 68.

Born on October 24, 1957, Carolyn was educated in Richmond Public Schools. She went on to serve as Custodial Supervisor at Amelia Street Elementary School, a role that reflected her steady work ethic and commitment.

Carolyn will be remembered as a feisty, motivating, caring woman with a great sense of humor but most of all she was deeply rooted in her Christian Faith. She was very outgoing, straight to the point, and brought her own unmistakable spirit to every room she entered. She loved fishing, cooking, and singing, and she especially loved her family. In the lives of those around her, she was everyone’s aunt, a reflection of the familiar, cherished, and larger-than-life place she held in the hearts of so many.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Short Jr.; her daughter, Brontae Short; her sister, Robin Wilson, and Robin’s husband, Dean; and her brother, Ronnie Maurice Johnson, nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Parham, and her father, Arthur Hamilton. Carolyn’s family and friends will carry forward the memory of her warmth, humor, honesty, and deep love for those closest to her.

A funeral service will be held on September 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23220.

Carolyn Short will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
