Quietly and peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, our hearts were broken as Almighty God gently closed the eyes of our beloved Celia Brice Meredith and led her home into eternal rest. Celia was the sixth of ten children born to the late Charlie Daniel Brice and Caroline Flornetta Blue Brice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Meredith, Sr., and her son, Wilbert Meredith Jr. as well as her siblings Charlie Jr., Robert and John Brice and Dorothy Chandler.
Celia was born on October 19, 1938, and attended Mt. Garland Prep School in Bumpass, VA. Upon graduation from elementary school, in her typical Celia style, she refused to go on to higher education, stating that she knew everything she needed to know.
Celia was baptized at Mt. Garland Baptist Church by the late Reverend A. L. Upshaw and attended regularly until she moved to Richmond. In her youth, she especially enjoyed attending Sunday School. While living in Richmond, she frequented First Union Baptist Church with her sister, Margaret where she enjoyed attending services and wearing her beautiful hats.
As a young girl Celia never liked housework, so she opted not to do anything. She often teased her siblings telling them that they were crazy for working so hard in the garden and doing all that cooking and cleaning. However, that changed when she fell in love and married Wilbert Meredith (1961). She became a devoted and loving homemaker for her husband and their six children. While Celia was a kind, generous, loving mother, she did not take any mess and would quickly set you straight if you stepped out of line.
Celia had a great sense of humor and was always willing to share a story or memory from her “growing up years.” Her laugh was infectious. Like her late son Wilbert Jr., Celia was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and loved talking about “her team.”
Celia leaves to cherish her memory, her children, James Lee Brice (Darlene), Dale, Muriel and Karen (Mark) Meredith and Kathy Walker; her siblings, Louise Worden, William, James (Sheila) and Daniel (Cathy) Brice and Margaret Gary; in-laws, Jesse, Pete, and Marion Meredith and Evelyn Meredith Smith; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
“Gone but never forgotten.”
