Eugene Christian Harden

Eugene Christian Harden, age 90, of Richmond, departed this life on May 3, 2026. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Eunice Christine Harden, and his parents, John and Louise Harden.

Mr. Harden was a retired U. S. Postal letter carrier and an Air Force veteran. As a member of the Astoria Beneficial Club for 55 years, he was very active and also served as president.

He is survived by his daughter, Ivy H. Dowdy; two sons, Jeffrey E. Harden and Jay C. Harden (Olivia T.); six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, among them Lettie McCoy (Eddie); one sister-in-law, Hannah B. Jiggetts; other relatives and friends.

Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 216 W. Leigh Street, where the remains will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral time. Rev. Kevin Jones, Pastor. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the church on Thursday at 12:45pm. Interment: Riverview Cemetery.
