Eugene Christian Harden

Eugene Christian Harden of Richmond, VA, departed this life on May 3rd, 2026 at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Harden, his wife of 61 years, Eunice Christine Harden, and his beloved son-in-law, Leon M. Dowdy.

Mr. Harden, a graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School, was proud to be a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a long-time member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a dedicated member of the Astoria Beneficial Club for 55 years, and was proud to be counted among the club’s past presidents.

He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey E. Harden and Jay C. Harden (Olivia T.), his daughter Ivy H. Dowdy; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins among them Lettie McCoy (Eddie); one sister-in-law, Hannah B. Jiggetts and other relatives and friends.

Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins, Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where the family will receive friends from 6:30PM to 7:30PM on Wednesday May 13th. Funeral services will be held 1PM on Thursday May 14th at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 216 W. Leigh Street where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Interment: Riverview Cemetery.
