Evelyn Elizabeth “Arby” Nelson, born June 22, 1948, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, just two days after celebrating her 78th birthday. Loved deeply and cherished by all who had the privilege to know her, Evelyn will be remembered for her warmth, steadfastness, and unwavering dedication to family, faith, and community.

Evelyn was the beloved daughter of the late Curtis and Eva Nelson. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Felicia Bishop; her treasured granddaughter, Devin Nelson; and her loving grandson, Caleb Bishop. Her siblings, Eva Ross and Shirley Davis, will forever remember her as a beacon of familial strength and kindness, while her brothers, Charles, Randolph, and William Nelson, carry forward her legacy of unity and care.

Evelyn’s love extended beyond immediate family. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives, each touched by her spirit and humor. Her friends, both new and lifelong, will miss her steadfast friendship and the sense of belonging she fostered in every room she entered.

A consummate professional, Evelyn served as a Principal’s Secretary, a position in which she brought grace, diligence, and unmatched organization. Colleagues admired her attention to detail, compassionate nature, and tireless commitment to the school community.

Her devotion to service was especially evident in her deep involvement with Great Hope Baptist Church. Evelyn found immense pride and joy in participating and leading many organizations within the church, always encouraging others and embodying the spirit of selfless giving. Her leadership and faith set an example for all who worshipped beside her.

Outside her career and church commitments, Evelyn nurtured an active and social life. She was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star, where her generosity and hospitality made her a cherished presence at gatherings and events. Fishing brought her peace and communion with nature, reminding those around her of the importance of slowing down and savoring life’s quiet moments. Perhaps most impressively, Evelyn earned her black belt in karate, a testament to her determination, discipline, and strength of character.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Curtis and Eva Nelson, who now welcome her home with open arms.

Evelyn’s life will be celebrated during a funeral service at Mt. Hope Baptist on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM, located at 5502 Paynes Mill Road, Bumpass, VA 23024. Family, friends, and all whose lives have been brightened by her presence are invited to join in remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for her extraordinary life.

Evelyn Elizabeth Nelson’s memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who were privileged to know her. Her life of service, love, and indomitable spirit leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
