Franklin James Pollard Sr., known lovingly as "Pops," passed away on May 11, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia. Born on November 7, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, Franklin's life was a testament to his deep commitment to family, community, and faith.
Franklin's dedication to his church was evident in his many roles at Morningstar Baptist, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and member of the Male Usher Board. He generously sponsored the Junior Usher Board and lent his voice to the Male Chorus, encapsulating his belief in service and the power of community support. His professional life was equally diverse; he was a mail clerk for the Commonwealth of Virginia and a truck driver, demonstrating a work ethic that was respected by all who knew him.
An alumnus of Kilmarnock High School in Virginia, Franklin furthered his education at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where he not only studied but also played football—a passion that mirrored his love for sports in his later years. Friends and family alike cherished his good sense of humor, often sharing laughter during moments spent together.
Family was at the heart of Franklin’s life. He is survived by two sons, Rex Sr. and Franklin Pollard Jr., and their mother, Jean C. Pollard. His legacy continues with three grandsons, Aarien, Rex Jr., and James, and a great granddaughter, Zarah. He is also survived by two brothers, Donald Pollard and John T. Darden, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends who will remember him fondly for his loving spirit and unwavering support.
Franklin was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Lorraine Pollard, his brother, Lawrence Dunbar Pollard Jr., and his sister, Mary Darden. Each of these losses marked significant moments in his life, yet he continued to nurture the bonds with those who remained, ensuring that love and laughter were always present in their gatherings.
A funeral service to honor Franklin's remarkable life will be held on May 30, 2025, at Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home located at 2011 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA. The service will commence at 12:00 PM, concluding at 1:00 PM.
Franklin James Pollard Sr. touched the lives of many, and his spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
