Haywood Carroll Howard Jr., affectionately known as "Junie," passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. Born on June 27, 1957, in Richmond, Virginia, Haywood lived a life marked by quiet dignity and devoted service both to his family and his community.
A proud Richmond native, Haywood was educated at John Marshall High within Richmond Public Schools, where he laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to learning and dedication. Following his education, he answered the call to serve his country in the Army, an experience that shaped much of his character and sense of responsibility.
Haywood devoted much of his professional life to his work as a sterilization processor technician and phlebotomist, roles that reflected his careful and conscientious nature. His colleagues will remember him for his meticulous approach and steady presence. Among his proudest accomplishments was his retirement, a milestone that celebrated years of diligent service.
Those who knew Junie best described him as a quiet, homebody spirit with a carefree demeanor. He found joy in hobbies that balanced precision and creativity, including model and remote control cars and drone technology. These interests brought him moments of peace and a gentle enthusiasm that he shared with those close to him.
Haywood’s life was framed by his deep connections to family. He is survived by his loving sister Pamela Howard and brothers James and Kelvin Howard. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends who cherished his presence. He was preceded in death by his father, Haywood Howard Sr., his mother, Patricia Ann Howard, and sister Rhonda Howard.
A funeral service honoring Haywood’s life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., concluding at 12:00 p.m., at the Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home, located at 2011 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23220.
