James Matthew Coleman, affectionately known as "Matt," was born on October 15, 1956, in Fairfax, Virginia. He passed away on November 2, 2025, leaving behind a cherished legacy filled with love, hard work, and warmth.
Matt dedicated his career as a truck driver for the city of Richmond, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community. Known for his hard-working nature and sense of humor, he was a true cowboy at heart who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His passion for horses was a significant part of his identity, reflecting his love for the outdoors and an adventurous spirit.
Matt is survived by his two loving daughters, Geneva Coleman and Honesty Smith, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He leaves behind three sons: Tyrone, James Jr., and Jamonte Coleman, along with four grandchildren and one great grandchild who will carry forward his spirit and values. Matt also shared a special bond with his two sisters, Alease Coleman and Nora Veney (Claude), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness and humor.
Among his proudest accomplishments was obtaining his commercial driver's license (CDL), a testament to his determination and commitment to his profession.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on November 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home located at 2011 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23220.
James Matthew Coleman's genuine spirit and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed, but those who had the privilege of knowing him will forever treasure the memories they shared.
