James Patrick Peyton, Sr.

Mr. James Patrick Peyton, Sr. of Richmond, Va., also affectionately known as “Baruti”, a beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend, departed this life on Monday, July 14, 2025 after a valiant battle with a long illness. He was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Peyton and Mary Wyatt Peyton, and his cherished siblings: Delores Peyton Alston (Leroy), Barbara Peyton Jones (Melvin), Benjamin Harrison Peyton (Carolyn), Arletha Marguerite Peyton Greene; and brother Sylvanius Norrell Peyton. He is survived by his devoted brother Bernard Thomas Peyton (Dorothy Mae), and his beloved children, Gisele Peyton Friend (Noel), stepson, David Troy Wyche (Daphne), daughter Demetris Rowe, daughter Lisa Peyton Caire, and son, James Patrick Peyton, Jr. (Tomondra). Also left to cherish his memory are ten prized grandchildren, Steven Diggs, Monique Friend Lam, Jabari Caire, Sekani Caire, James Patrick Peyton III, Raven Wyche, Amira Caire, Alana Caire, Ajani Caire and Johaan Peyton; a devoted niece and nephew, Freda Alston Henderson and Timmie Alston; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins, Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where they can be viewed on Monday, July 21st. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday., July 22nd at 11:00am. Flowers and cards can be sent to the funeral home in advance of services. A repass will immediately follow.
