Mrs. Joanne Lester-Carey, age 74, of Richmond, departed this life on July 11, 2026.She is survived by her husband, Deacon Samuel L. Carey Jr.; one son, Kevin Lester (Charnetta); one grandson, Kevin Lester Jr.; two brothers, Herman Lester Jr. and Gary Lester (Charmaine); a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters-in-law, Sheila Belle and Donna Lester; other relatives and friends. 

Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where Mrs. Lester-Carey can be viewed on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00am, at Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. Cary Street, where remains will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral time. Dr. Earl Brown and Dr Ricardo Brown, Pastors. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the church at 10:45am on Saturday.
