Joseph Davie Dean, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Cumberland County, Virginia, on October 20, 1947, Joseph's journey through life was marked by kindness, warmth, and a steadfast dedication to his family.
He was educated in Cumberland County and later served honorably in the Marines, embodying the values of commitment and service that shaped his character. Following his military service, Joseph utilized his skills in a meaningful way as a custodian at City Hall in Richmond, where he was well-respected by his colleagues.
Joseph was a man of simple pleasures; his heart was filled with joy during the times spent with his siblings. He cherished family gatherings, savoring every moment shared with loved ones. His kind and happy demeanor made him a cherished presence, not only within his family but also among his friends among them devoted friends Kenneth Brown and Charmaine Johnson.
A devoted father, Joseph leaves behind his two children, son Steven Dean and daughter, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever remember his gentle spirit. He was also a loving brother to five sisters: Sue Clements, Doris Willis, Carolyn Hampton (Reginald), Doris Bailey (Maxwell), and Delores Turner, as well as four brothers: Curtis Dean (Delmore), Herbert Dean (Doris), Mark Dean, and Earl Dean. Joseph's life was enriched by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends who all felt the warmth of his presence.
He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Wayne Dean
In addition to his love for his family, Joseph had a passion for cooking and a fondness for his beloved dogs, which brought joy and companionship to his life.
A memorial service to honor Joseph's life will be held at Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home in Richmond, Virginia, on August 9, 2025, commencing at 1:30 PM.
Joseph Davie Dean will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindhearted nature and the love he spread to those around him. May his soul rest in peace.
