Josephine Barksdale Williamson, affectionately known as Josie, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on November 19, 1942, in Darlington Heights, Virginia, Josie devoted her life to her passion for nurturing and educating children, embodying a spirit of love and care in everything she did.
Josie cultivated a bubbly and spunky personality that left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her strong, energetic demeanor fostered genuine connections, making her a cherished figure among family and friends alike. Josie deeply loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and found joy in attending church, where she earned the affectionate title of "Mommy" from her church community.
She had an unquenchable love for singing and praising, activities that brought her immense joy and served as a testament to her vibrant spirit. Josie positively impacted the lives of many through her career and hobbies, influencing generations with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to others.
Her memory will be lovingly preserved by her two daughters, Mercedes Williamson and Rosemary Pryor (Guster -devoted son-in-law); her grandchildren, Dominique Williamson, Rebekah, and Leroy Williamson, Sabrie Key; and her great-grandchild, Madison Aliyah Benejan. Josie is also survived by her sisters, Janie Goldman and Vivian Hodge; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, among them close cousins, Elsie Olds and Edmonia Barksdale and other relatives and friends whom she all loved as family.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, James Goldman and Rosa Barksdale; sisters, Queenie Elizabeth Randolph, Katherine Deloris Spencer and Stelene Brown; her two sons, Anthony and Leroy Williamson, whose legacies of love and devotion live on through her family.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on May 3, 2025, starting at 1:30 PM at the Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home, located at 2011 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23220. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Josie are invited to celebrate her remarkable life and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.
