Kevin Orville Brooks, born on December 3, 1962, passed away on August 21, 2026. Those who had the privilege to know Kevin will remember a man who brought warmth, laughter, and light to their lives—a man whose loving and joyful nature was matched only by his radiant smile and intelligence.
Kevin was educated in Richmond Public Schools, where he cultivated a foundation for the rich life he would later lead. His professional journey involved work in construction and janitorial services, fields in which he applied both diligence and pride. Through these endeavors, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike, forging connections with his characteristic kindness and dedication.
A passionate lover of music, Kevin found joy in writing and dressing well, hobbies that became expressions of his spirited personality. He was truly a people person—someone who naturally drew others toward him with his openness and infectious enthusiasm. Family and friends alike found comfort and happiness in his company, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Kevin's memory lives on through his devoted family. He is survived by his sisters, Malinda Brooks-Williams and Delores Kimbrough; his brother, Larry Brooks; niece and nephews among them devoted Lauren Williams and Lawrence Williams. Preceding Kevin in death are his beloved mother, Cora Elizabeth Brooks; father, James Brooks; sister, Janet Wright; and brothers, Freddie Brooks Sr. and Gregory Brooks. Each of them held a special place in Kevin's heart, as he did in theirs.
As we honor Kevin’s memory, we reflect on the legacy of compassion, joy, and togetherness he leaves behind—a legacy that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in his life's journey.
A Graveside Service to celebrate Kevin’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 5, 2026, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1400 S Randolph St, Richmond, VA 23220.
Kevin Orville Brooks will forever be remembered for his loving spirit, his infectious joy, and the beautiful smile that brightened every room he entered. His presence will be sorely missed but forever cherished.
