"Kimberly LaVerne Decole Ross was born July 6, 1974 in Washington, DC. She departed this life October 17, 2026 at the age of 52 in Northern Virginia surrounded by family and close friends. None of the things in Kim’s life were acquired easily. She faced many struggles to build a successful life for her family though still maintaining her spirited personality. She fought with strength, poise and grit, all accompanying a laugh and light to her soul.
Kimberly spent most of her childhood in Richmond, VA where she attended Maymont Elementary, Binford Middle School and the prestigious Maggie L. Walker’s Governor’s High School. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Not only was Kimberly a well-educated student in the classroom, she understood vast cultures encouraged by her love for reading as a child. Books served as a portal through doors to life she could not access and experience until she got older.
For most of Kimberly’s career she worked for Fannie Mae, starting 20 years ago in 2006. She worked her way up to a Senior Associate for Fannie Mae’s Financial Operation Risk Management Team. She enjoyed the company and the opportunities her work provided, all along making meaningful connections with coworkers.
Outside of work, Kimberly fully embraced life’s offers. With the ability to open doors she could not previously, she spread her wings across the world engrossing herself in culture and life experiences. As she began to explore the world, she collected memories and experiences along with beautiful and creative pieces. She had amazing style and surrounded herself with finely crafted handbags, timeless articles of clothing, and a diverse music collection. Always reminded by her younger self, she remained light and playful. She loved to build Legos, play video games, collect beautiful dolls and capture memories with her detail-oriented eye.
She was preceded in death by her father, Linwood Davis, baby daughter, Quinn Roxy Ross, uncle, Rudolph Lee, and grandmother, Mary Ann Lee.
Kimberly is survived by her remaining daughter, Nadja Ross, brother, DeForest Ross, mother, Janet Ross, aunt, Valerie Lee, cousin, Helen Whirley, nephews, DeForest Ross Jr. and Darryl Ross, nieces, Mia Wright-Ross and Taniesha Spell, and great nieces, Serenity, Harmony, Trinity, and Kennedy, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
We pray to learn from Kimberly - maintaining a fighting spirit also brightly lit, guiding us through life she adored. We pray her soul is at ease and the fight is no longer – her fight and successes celebrated by those in Heaven and on earth. We pray to see you again, Kimberly, and thank you for sharing your time with us here. We love you.
Her funeral will be held at the Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home at 11:00am, on October 30, 2026. It will also be streamed live, beginning five minutes before the service. The link can be found on Kimberly's obituary located on Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home's website."
