Laverne Louise Braxton

Laverne Louise Braxton, affectionately known as "Dee Dee," 78, departed this life peacefully at home on May 25, 2026. Born on November 1, 1947, in Richmond, VA, she was a graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School and later retired from Bon Secours Health System. She was a master chef and an avid bingo player. Laverne was, is, and forever will be greatly loved and missed by many, especially her children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Byrd and Thomas King; her son, Derrick L. Braxton Sr.; her granddaughter, Tanniesha Byrd; and her sister-in-law, Thelma Byrd.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Braxton Sr.; two daughters, Romaine B. Coles (Robert) and Yvette B. Heckstall; one son, Jermaine T. Braxton; and two bonus daughters, Tameka and Stephanie. She is also survived by two brothers, Ronald and Thomas Byrd (Martha); 15 grandchildren, Ronnetta, Dasmond (Alesha), Devon, Derrica, Terrell, Tiara, Khatori, Jazzmen, Draquan, Derrick Jr., Kenneth, Sabria, Jaishaun, Eric, and Stephon; 18 great-grandchildren, Chaniya, Devontay, Dasmond Jr., Khari, Ja'carri, Alana, Eric Jr., Jaraun, Patrick Jr., Tavion, Jakai, Na'loni, Jerrell, Juell, Jae'veon, Dakota, Kaiden, Sienna, Sionni, Ja'quante, Jamiyah, Davion, Laila, Kordae, and Kayse; and one great-great-grandson, Brandon Thomas Jr. Additionally, she leaves behind two nieces, Felicia and Tameka; one nephew, Darrell Sr.; two great-nieces, Destiny and Rakaishia; two great-nephews, Darrell Jr. and Kharaun; one great-great-niece, Serenity; and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 1:00pm, at Joseph Jenkins Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 12:45pm, at the funeral home on Saturday.
