April 21, 1955 – November 21, 2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Linda Tomonia, who left this world on November 21, 2024, at the age of 69. Linda’s vibrant spirit, boundless generosity, and unshakeable love for her family and community will be remembered by all who knew her.
Born on April 21, 1955, Linda was a proud graduate of Maggie Walker High School. She continued her education at J. Sargeant Reynolds and Virginia Commonwealth University, laying a foundation of knowledge and determination that would guide her throughout her life. Linda retired from a distinguished career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2008, where she made meaningful contributions to the field and left a lasting impact on her colleagues.
Linda’s greatest joy came from her family. She leaves behind her beloved son, Reginald Tomonia, and eagerly anticipates the arrival of his first child, her granddaughter, Reign, her life partner, Thomas Verner, and paw baby, Bentley. She is also survived by her beloved daughter, Tocia Johnson (devoted son-in-law, Michael), and grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Matieya. Linda was a devoted mother and grandmother, AKA Nana who always offered her love, support, and wisdom with a joyful heart.
Linda was also a loving sister, survived by her sister, Betty Harris (Tomonia) and brother, Allen Tomonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Ollie Tomonia, two sisters, Julia Gray and Corine Tomonia, one brother, Robert Tomonia, and two dogs, Knowledge and Jazzy. Her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who are considered her family.
Known for her infectious laughter, Linda found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially dancing and sharing meals with those in need. Her love for feeding the hungry and uplifting others was a central part of who she was, and she leaves behind a legacy of compassion and kindness.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 1 PM ET, followed by a "celebration of life at 3 PM ET, at Jenkins Funeral Home, in Richmond, VA.
Linda will be missed deeply, but her light will continue to shine in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
She will rest in peace!
