Michael Anthony Drayton, affectionately known as Saab, Drake, or simply Mike, passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 66 in Richmond, Virginia.
Born on December 11, 1958, in Richmond’s Church Hill neighborhood, Michael was the beloved son of the late Mattie Taylor. He was raised with strong roots and faith, growing up as a member of Sixth Baptist Church.
Michael was a proud graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, where he played both football and basketball—sports he remained passionate about throughout his life. He went on to attend Richmond Business College and served a short stint in the U.S. Army.
A man of many talents, Michael worked as a pressman for 25 years, a role he resigned from due to illness. He was a natural problem solver who could fix just about anything—cars, electronics, and even computers, which he taught himself to repair without formal training. He was also known for his love of music, collecting an impressive album and CD collection over the years.
Michael had a deep appreciation for nature and was an avid fisherman and aquarium enthusiast—keeping large fish tanks filled with well-cared for aquatic pets. He also had a love for cooking and baking, eventually turning his passion into a small business, Cheesecakes by Drake, which brought joy to many.
A die-hard sports fan, Michael cheered for the L.A. Rams, L.A. Lakers, and L.A. Dodgers. But more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Allie “Vanessa” Perry-Drayton; his daughters, Mytece Threatts (Jamon) and Vantece Moultrie (Antione); his grandchildren, Joshua Moultrie, Jamon Threatts II, Jaxon Threatts, and Jordan Moultrie; his brothers, Reginald Taylor (Tina) and Keith Taylor; one aunt, Dorothy Johnson; mother-in-law, Lacy Hill; brothers-in-law, Willie Perry (Darlene) and Alonzo Perry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Michael’s life was full of laughter, music, creativity, and love—a legacy that lives on in the many lives he touched.
