Mildred Elizabeth Dixon, affectionately known as Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026. Born on September 16, 1929, in Goochland, Virginia, she lived a life marked by love, dedication, and generosity. Elizabeth was a deeply caring and outgoing woman who would willingly do anything for anyone, leaving an indelible impact on all who knew her.
Elizabeth was educated in the Washington DC Public Schools system, where she laid the foundation for a life of service and commitment. She dedicated her career to custodial work at the National Institute of Health, taking pride in her role and the contribution she made to such a vital institution.
A woman of many talents and interests, Elizabeth loved to sew, fish, cook, and plant flowers. Her home was a testament to her nurturing spirit, filled with beautiful blooms and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals, reflecting the warmth she shared with family and friends. Above all, her proudest accomplishment was her cherished grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Elizabeth is survived by her three devoted daughters, Ida Toller, Barbara Coles, and Chrysta Banks, who carry on her legacy of kindness and strength. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 21 great and 19 great-great-grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her love. Her family circle extends to two brothers, George Kenney (Irene) and James Kenney (Sheryl), as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember her generous nature and vibrant spirit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Roger Coles, and her parents, Andrew McCowan and Ila (Ollie) Kenney(Howard), whose memories she treasured deeply.
Mildred Elizabeth Dixon's life was a shining example of love, dedication, and selflessness. She will be remembered for her boundless capacity to care for others, her joyful personality, and the unwavering support she provided to her family and community throughout her years. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
