Moses Goode Jr., affectionately known to many as "Big Moe," passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on July 28, 1952, in Powhatan, Virginia, Moses' life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a deep commitment to family, friends, and community.

Moses was the beloved son of Mary Giles and Moses Goode Sr. He spent his early years in Powhatan before moving to Riverhead, New York, where he would forge a life rich with purpose and fulfillment. A proud graduate of Riverhead Public Schools the class of 1974, Moses went on to serve his country with distinction in the United States Air Force, embodying the values of honor and integrity that would guide him throughout his life.

In 1988, Moses met Crystal Allen and from their union, they were blessed with their cherished daughter, Michonda, who became the center of Moses' world. His love and devotion to her knew no boundaries extending to his precious grandchildren, Zyki and Zuri, who brought endless joy to his days.

Moses dedicated 40 years of diligent service to the City of Richmond Public Works Department as a machine operator. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he took great pride in his contributions to the community. Known for his infectious smile and gentle demeanor, Moses was a cherished colleague and a beacon of reliability.

A man of many passions, Moses was an avid fisherman and hunter, finding solace and adventure in the great outdoors. His love for the New York Giants was legendary, and he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team.

Moses' legacy of love extends beyond his immediate family. He is survived by his devoted daughter Michonda and his treasured grandchildren Zyki and Zuri. He also leaves behind his sisters, Elsie Dawkins and Rosa Braunskill, along with his dear niece Stacey Smith as well as Wanda Russell, James Smith, Dedra Dawkins and Curtis Dawkins and his best friend of over 40 years, Edward Otey, also mourn his loss, alongside a host of other family and friends whose lives he touched deeply.

He is predeceased by his sister, Gladys Smith, whose memory he cherished dearly.

A celebration of Moses' life will be held at the Joseph Jenkins Funeral Home, located at 2011 Grayland Avenue. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember a man who was truly larger than life.
