Norman Karim Bashir

Norman Karim Bashir, affetionatley know as Bulldog,born July 6, 1941, passed away on August 27, 2026.

Mr. Bashir was educated in Richmond Public Schools and went on to a working life that reflected dedication and perseverance. He worked with Phillip Morris USA as a contractor and later retired from Wonder Bread Bakery. Beyond his work, he was known for the pursuits he enjoyed most. He loved golf, spent 65 years as a caddy, and found pleasure in drawing.

He will be remembered as a truthful man who was very direct and firm, a family man who stood firmly in his convictions, and a devout Muslim. Those qualities shaped the way he lived and the way he was known by the people around him.

Above all, Norman cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Baheejah Bashir. He also leaves to honor his memory his daughters, Marshae Bashir-Jones, Lozetta Ragland, and Najah Bashir; his sons, Norman Charles Brooks III, Kevin Jerome Brooks, and Jabril Bashir; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and his daughters-in-law, Sharon Brooks and Tressa Brooks. He also leaves other relatives and friends among them ex Wife Joyce W. Brookswho will carry his memory forward with love and respect.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Brooks; his father, Norman C. Brooks Sr., known as Hawkshaw; and his son, Jameel E. Bashir, known as Mookie.

A funeral service will be held on September 12, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Joseph Jenkins Jr Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23220.

Norman Karim Bashir’s life was marked by hard work, devotion to family, deep faith, and a steadfast spirit. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and honor by all who knew him.
