Rudolph “Rudy” Ransome, 81, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 30, 1944 in Plymouth, NC, Rudy was a man whose life reflected strength, craftsmanship, and deep love for those around him. A talented carpenter and true jack of all trades, he took great pride in his work and was always willing to lend his skill and creativity to help others. Whether building something with his hands or offering words of wisdom, Rudy left an impression of reliability and quiet excellence. He felt most at home with a fishing pole in hand, surrounded by the stillness of nature, where those who knew him can almost hear the calm of the water and the sound of jazz playing softly in the background—a perfect reflection of his spirit. He also thoroughly enjoyed his Western shows like Gunsmoke and the humor of Sanford & Son.
Rudy shared his life with his devoted wife, Ruth Ransome, in a home filled with love, laughter, and music. He was especially fond of jazz, a passion that spoke to his soul and reflected his thoughtful, steady spirit. To those who knew him, Rudy was a proud man—steadfast, generous, and always present when someone needed a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edison Ransome and Luina Thomas, and his siblings, Beverly Bell, Ernest “Punchie” Boston, Desiree Ransome, David Ransome and Edison Ransome (Rosa).
Rudy is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ransome, His last living aunt, Shirley Thomas. His siblings, Joyce Hyman(Emanuel), Ricky Bell(Diane), Peggy Thomas Arnold (Stuggart), Bobby Bell(Flora), Diane Kelly, and Sandra Howell-Grant. His children Seddrina Ferebee (Rufus), Iasia Ransome, Jeelan Jones (Otis), Shaheed Ransome (Atorria), Surayya Ransome, Charles Holloway. Levelle Holloway, and Lavonda Hurt. His grandchildren, Shadae Doyle, Ramel Doyle (Jaiden Lee’Andre), Jada Goodson (Nick, Gianna, Amara), Brandon Braxton(Juan), Otis R. Jones, III, Nia Jones, Shaheed Ransome, Jr (Harli Toney), Ariyah Perry, King Ransome, Sa’raee Ransome, and Saliah Ransome. Rudy also leaves behind the Holloway family, including the Winfrey and Whitaker family who shared countless family gatherings and cherished memories with him. Rudy leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and cherished the time spent with them throughout the years.
Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where Mr. Ransome can be viewed on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 11:00am to 8:00pm, and where funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:30am. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 10:15am at the funeral home on Saturday.
