Tony Antone Wiggins, a dedicated community organizer and cherished family man, passed away on April 17, 2026. Born on September 17, 1961, in Como, North Carolina, Tony lived a life marked by service, creativity, and a profound connection to his roots and community.
Educated within the New York Public Schools system, Tony blossomed into an upbeat, well-rounded individual who was widely respected and liked by all who knew him. His career was devoted to enriching the lives of young people as a service organizer with the YMCA and the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, where his commitment and passion left an indelible impact on countless lives.
Known for his love of poetry and spoken word, Tony found deep joy in expressing himself creatively. He was also a self-proclaimed author, taking pride in his writings and the stories he told. Central to his personal interests was a heartfelt dedication to family lineage, history, and reunion, which reflected his profound respect for past generations and his desire to keep his family’s legacy alive.
Tony's love extended beyond his immediate circle; he was deeply devoted to his Islamic community, finding strength and inspiration in faith and fellowship. His warm spirit and positive outlook were a source of comfort and joy to those around him.
He is remembered with great fondness by his sister Shirley Gatling (Melvin), along with a host of nieces, nephews, among them devoted De'Vonne Karim(Wiggins) and Dushawn and William Wiggins, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends who will carry forward his memory. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Willie Davis Wiggins, his mother, Laura Mae Whitehead Wiggins, and ten siblings.
